The bible template is corrupted

I found many broken links using Bibleverse templates. (example: Jesus_and_the_rich_young_man) points to http://bibref.hebtools.com/?book= Mark & amp; verse = 10: 17â € "31 & amp; src = NIV and it is an expired domain. Is it correct and appropriate to replace with niv template? Is there an automated tool for this situation? - Ã, Unsigned preliminary comment added by Mcgyver5 (talk o contribs)

The site is dead. The site worked a week ago, at least. Maybe we can wait a while? The source code is available at [1] we can ask one person with WP: Labs whether they will host it. We have to get our hands on biblebooks.txt [2] and biblesrcs.txt [3]. Surely you can replace the template with that work; the only automated tool that might work for this situation, all I can think of is wp: awb.-- Atethnekosà ¢ (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 20:50, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
My question is: Who made this tool? Who is responsible for hosting it? To whom can we change to fix this mess? I do not understand the work behind the scenes from Wikipedia. Help desk? Forum? Warning board? Which one. I'm sure if we switch to admin, this can be fixed 1,2,3. But who is the admin? If anyone knows, please forward this information. Regards, - @ Efrat (talk) 01:40, 23 November 2013 (UTC) - @ Efrat (talk) 01:40, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
The name and contact info are available along with the source code in [4]. I would rather not repeat the name and email here, for privacy reasons. It is not hosted by Wikimedia. As I said, maybe people in WP: Labs can host this tool; they need biblesi.txt biblebooks.txt if anyone has it. - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 01:50, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
I see that the file here is also with a text file: [5], although there are some minor differences I noticed (not sure if anything significant). - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 02:52, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Update

As you can probably see, the website hosting tool for this template has been down for a while now.

I have transferred the code to Wikimedia Tool Labs on [6]. This works in the sandbox version I just developed: [7]. So the edit request is we replace the current wikitext with it. Similar changes should be made to all other related templates. Is it possible I can get the template editor permission and I can do it myself? - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 06:07, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

I can not get the tool to go directly to a particular version, just a list of version pages. There is also a typo error message when I enter a book name that does not exist. Template Templates: Bibleverse-nb, Templates: Bibleverse-lb, and Templates: Bibleref also needs to be updated as tools are fixed.
Applause. --Telpardec (talk) 06:50, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
@Telpardec: Sorry, where did you try to use it? So when you click here on this link what do you get from John 1: 1? - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 06:59, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
The spelling error has been fixed now; ADD - & gt; REFERENCE. - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 07:07, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
@Atethnekos: OK. To my bad, I just typed in the address bar "version =" instead of "src =" for the version. Everything works fine now, so I have re-enabled the edited template edit. I'll leave the rest to you.
Applause. --Telpardec (talk) 07:29, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Great. Thank you for seeing it. - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 07:31, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Wait. What works now?
John 1: 1 Joel 4: 2 1 Maccabees 2: 1-5 {{Bibleverse | BOOK # | BOOKNAME | c: vc: v | SOURCE}} instead of works.
John 1: 1 Joel 4: 2 1 Maccabees 2: 1-5 {{Bibleverse /sandbox | BOOK # | BOOKNAME | c: vc: v | SOURCE}} is working.
Please forgive my naivete. (Actually, please excuse my ignorance - I do not understand all the technical stuff.) Are you still in the middle of fixing the problem? Will I add a /sandbox to all Bible links in the Wikipedia article or do I wait patiently? Regards, - @ Efrat (talk) 05:58, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, the sandbox version I created works. I do not have permission to update the template itself - that's the purpose of a protected edit request. I guess just wait for the admin or templateeditor to update it. - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 06:10, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Done . I also fixed Bibleverse-nb. Cheers, Little Mountain 5 07:20, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Wow, very fast!

Thanks to Atethnekos for transferring the code to Wikimedia Tool Labs.
Thank you to Little Mountain 5 for editing templates very quickly. - @ Efrat (talk) 07:49, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

One more detail. (Forgive me for being a little hysterical). In the "Source list" section, "dead to source and code" links still appear. - @ Efrat (talk) 08:01, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 08:52, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you you . - @ Efrat (talk) 11:49, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Template-protected edit request

Request to shorten URL for simplicity:

So use the source code in the sandbox: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Bibleverse/sandbox&action=edit

It just removes "bibleversefinder.php" from the URL

The same change should be made for the template: bibleverse-nb (I did not create a sandbox version for it). - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 03:20, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Done , along with Bibleverse-nb. Little Mountain 5 03:42, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Sandbox version deletes empty parameters

I created a sandbox version of a template here that can handle spaces in the book's name, so the strange (usually empty) "Book #" parameter is no longer needed. As an example,

  • {{bibleverse | John | 3:16}} serves as a substitute
  • {{bibleverse || John | 3:16}} , and
  • {{bibleverse | 1 John | 3:16}} serves as a substitute
  • {{bibleverse | 1 | John | 3:16}}

Look at the trial case. It's compatible, so it will not break anything. If nobody minds, I'll apply it in a day or two. Cheers, Little Mountain 5 05:06, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Wait! Will the changes work for books that never fill out | BOOK # | parameter. Compare:
{{Bibleverse || Genesis | 1: 1-10 | NIV}} ( with empty | BOOK # | parameters) Genesis 1: 1-10 KARYA
{{Bibleverse | Genesis | 1: 1-10 | NIV}} ( without empty | BOOK # | parameters) Genesis 1: 1-10 DOES NOT WORK
After the change, both will work? Regards, - @ Efrat (talk) 06:04, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, both will work:
  • {{bibleverse/sandbox || Genesis | 1: 1-10 | NIV}} : Genesis 1: 1-10
  • {{bibleverse/sandbox | Genesis | 1: 1-10 | NIV}} : Genesis 1: 1-10
Little Mountain 5 07:25, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
Good! - @ Efrat (talk) 07:30, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Because no objections, Ã, Implemented . The "Book #" parameter is no longer required. Little Mountain 5 21:55, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

Good work! - AtethnekosÃ, (Discussion, Ã, Contribution) 22:05, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! I am updating the redirected bibleverse-nb and bibleref as well. Little Mountain 5 23:26, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

@Little Mountain 5: The document page here describes bibleverse-nb as an alternative to bibleverse that does not display the book's name. * So far, very good; but then the example shows a double pipe "||" without explaining it at all. I find this quite confusing and should go to the actual documentation page for bibleverse-nb to find out what parameters are empty for. Can you explain it on the document page along with non-para || examples el, or make it parallel?

* OWTTE; I'm writing this on my smartphone (not too smart of me, I guess) and can not easily switch back and forth to get the right deals. --Thnidu (talk) 15:15, July 22, 2015 (UTC)

hyphens and hyphens

Returning this edit to MOS: does this template fail if the dash is used instead of hyphens? Can it be updated to handle the strip correctly? Thank you, - JHunterJ (talk) 14:10, 22 April 2014 (UTC)

The template needs to be changed so that output contains endashes instead of hyphens. It looks like a simple addition {{Replace | OUTPUT | - | -}} will fix the problem. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:55, April 23, 2014 (UTC)
@Peter coxhead: First, the problem is with the dash not working. I tried your idea in the sandbox, changing the hyphen into a hyphen, which worked, but it was also displayed as a hyphen. The MOS-cranky editor likes to see dashes in numeric ranges. See next message for alternative solutions. I will remember that {{replace}} ideas for possible futures.
thanks. - Telpardec Ã, TALKÃ, 07:25, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

------------------------------------ - ------------------------------------------------- - ------------- @Little Mountain 5: I found the solution for dashes- the problem does not work. I created a sandbox template version (612320962) with urlencode added to each parameter verse = . I also added some samples with paragraph ranges to the testcases page and all work with the set encoded in lieu of a hyphen. I did not add PATH at the end of me like urlencode first in the template, (I'm not know what to do.) If this solution does not mess up the other, it can be transferred from the sandbox to the template.
Applause. - Telpardec Ã, TALKÃ, 07:25, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

@Anyone? I do not have edit access to update the template with the corrected version in the sandbox. see above thanks. - Telpardec Ã, TALKÃ, 08:56, June 13, 2014 (UTC)
Not done: please make the changes you requested to template sandbox first; see WP: TESTCASES. I've added some testcases and they do not work well for all hyphens and hyphens... Links fail. Please try fixing the fix in the sandbox and I will apply. (Note that the live version also fails for dashes and dashes, but if the revision will not fix the problem you want to fix, then it's not worth doing. ;;)) - {{U | Technical 13}} (eotoc) 11:48, June 13, 2014 (UTC)
There was a misunderstanding. We have no issues with people trying to make templates work with m-dash or non-breaking dashes. This works with ordinary keyboard hyphens. According to MOS: ENDASH, we should use an endash between numbers in numeric ranges, rather than hyphens, so some people change the hyphens in the template to be hits, and that causes the template to fail in some cases. To make matters worse, fixed width fonts in the edit window make hyphens and endashes look the same width, 6 pixels each. I spend days trying to figure out why certain template instances do not work before finding that what looks like hyphens is actually the end result. Before now, there was no improvement to the problem except requiring people to only use hyphens in this template. So much for history. - Telpardec Ã, TALKÃ,

The solution to the above problem is to add urlencode to each parameter verse = . See the new Bibleverse/testcases page for this template, and Bibleverse-nb/testcases for template {{Bibleverse-nb}}. Please transfer the sandbox version template (612320962) to the {{Bibleverse}} template instead of the current version, and transfer the sandbox version template (613558148) to the {{Bibleverse-nb}} template instead of the current version. The "document" page is not protected, so I can update it as necessary Applause. - Telpardec Ã, TALKÃ, 16: 8, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Not finished for now: As I said in the edit summary to return your changes to the testcases page. You do not know what people will try and enter for hyphens or hyphens, just because you're using the right one does not mean that Example will do it. Example may have a non-standard keyboard or macro where "normal"
