Wachovia (formerly the ticker symbol NYSE WB ) is a diversified financial services company based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before being acquired by Wells Fargo and Company in 2008, Wachovia is the fourth largest bank holding company in the United States, based on total assets. Origin of company name

Wachovia ( wah- KOH -vee -? ) has its origins in the Latin Form of the Austrian name Wachau . Wachovia

Wachovia Corporation began on June 16, 1879 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as Wachovia National Bank. The bank was co-founded by James Alexander Gray and William Lemly. Acquisitions

Acquisition by Wells Fargo

Controversy

Negligence of identity theft
