William Christopher Winter (born December 27, 1972) is a sleep scientist, neurologist, author, and sleeping authority on sleep and athletic performance. A 2010 article in Trail Runner magazine describes Winter as "the leading expert on sleep disorders, athletes and travel-related issues." He is credited with coining the term circadian benefits after studying the effects of travel in the Major League Baseball team. He studied the effect of bedtime preference on baseball major pitcher performance, and hit performance. In 2013, his research links the drowsiness of Major League Baseball players with reduced career lifespan. This work led to drowsiness studies as a predictor of the NFL Draft value in which sleep 560 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) football players and their successful drafts were finally studied.

To date, he has advised many professional athletic organizations, notably the San Francisco Giants who openly comment on his role with their clubs in 2012 and 2014. It has been documented that he also worked with Oklahoma City Thunder, the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers by reference most recently referring to Winter's work with athletic sleep being "The Best Secret Weapon [in Sport]." Winter, described as a "sleep whisperer" is referenced repeatedly by Arianna Huffington in his book 2016 The Sleep Revolution: Changing Your Life, One Night at a Time .

Winter debut book, The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep is Broken and How to Fix It, released by Penguin Random House on April 4, 2017.
