Richard Howard " Dick " Bertram (February 4, 1916 - April 28, 2000) is a champion sailor in powerboats and racing yachts and a leading ship builder and broker. Born in East Orange, New Jersey, Bertram learned to sail at a young age with his parents in the waters of Barnegat Bay. He owns his first boat at the age of 8, sailing in his first race at the age of 10 and capturing inter-college championship vessels while attending Cornell University. After college, Bertram continues to compete in various races around the world and is especially referred to by Sports Illustrated as "one of the best maritime racers anywhere". In 1947, Bertram moved to Miami, FL, where he opened Richard Bertram & amp; The company, a successful yacht brokerage company. Among his clients were Aristotle Onassis, Aga Khan, King Hussein of Jordan and Prince Bertil of Sweden. With its successful brokerage yacht business, Bertram continued the race and set the standard on the offshore Powerboat World Circuit. Often, he races himself 'Bertram Lucky Moppie .
