Plot
Chicagoan Chester "Chet" Ripley, his wife, Connie, and their two sons, Buckley "Buck" and Ben, were vacationing in a lakeside resort in Pechoggin, Wisconsin during the summer. All went as planned until Connie's sister Kate, Kate's investment broker, Roman Craig, and their twin daughters, Mara and Cara, smashed the holiday.
The ghost story in the BBQ family includes one of the grizzly bears who ate the meals Chet met when he was young. Chet says that while he and Connie are honeymooning in the same lake, he is attacked by a grizzly giant bear. When he shot him with a shotgun, the arrow shaved his head from the top of the bear's head and from that day on, it was known as the "Bald Bear" in Clare County.
After Roman pulls Chet around the lake with an impromptu water ski ride by speedboat rent, tension between families erupts. Chet is ready to pack and go home, even when his teenage boy, Buck, tries to cheer up a local girl, Cammie. The novice romance went well until Chet was challenged to eat the Old 96'er (96-ounce steak) at a family dinner that caused Buck to break their date. Buck tries to apologize to Cammie for being late, but Cammie refuses to talk to him.
Connie and Kate bond at the local bar as the conversation drifts into Kate's challenge to get rich. Then, only at the height of the tension among the families, it emerged that the Romans had made a bad investment and went bankrupt. He has not told Kate yet and plans to hit Chet for cash.
Then, during a thunderstorm, the twins roam and fall into the pit. Chet and Roman found them, but Roman claustrophobia reluctantly descended into small mine rods. After some encouragement from Chet, Roman summoned all his courage, while Chet searched the ropes to pull them out. After realizing that the mine was filled with old dynamite, Roman took her daughter and climbed out of her own axis.
When Chet returns with a rope, he is horrified to find "Bear Bear Bald Head" hiding in the mine. He chases him back to his house, smashes the door, and goes berserk at home. Wally, the cabin owner, bursts with a full rifle while Roman tries to hold the animals with fire poker and oars. Chet picks up a gun and shoots a bear, blowing a feather from the back. Roaring, the bear ran out of the house.
The next morning, the two families separated carefully. Unbeknownst to Chet, Connie had invited Roman families to stay with them until they could rise again. Cammie and Buck make and end their summer romance, when Buck and his family return to Chicago.
