There are four "Medieval Villages" in southern Florida, built by the same developers: West Palm Beach (Palm Beach County), Boca Raton (Palm Beach County), Deerfield Beach (Broward County), and Pembroke Pines (Broward County). This article deals only with West Palm Beach Century Village, the only one designing a census designated place (CDP). All of them are retired faction communities, whose residents must be 55 years of age or older.

Demographics

In the 2000 census, there were 7,616 people, 7,854 households, and 1,777 families living in the CDP. Population density is 2,940.6/km² (7,588.1/miÃ,²). There are 7,854 housing units with an average density of 3,379.9/km² (8,721,9/miÃ,²). Racial makeup of CDP is 98.41% White (95.6% Non-Hispanic White, 0.43% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Island, 0.11% of other races, and 0.53% of two or more races. Hispanic or Latin of any race is 2.99% of the population.

There are 7,854 households where 0.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 29.0% are married couples living together, 2.4% have unmarried female households, and 67.9% are not family. 65.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 57.4% had someone living alone 65 or older. The average household size was 1.38 and the average family size was 2.07.

In CDP, the population is spread by 0.3% under the age of 18, 0.3% from 18 to 24, 1.9% from 25 to 44, 12.9% from 45 to 64, and 84.6% years or more. The median age was 78 years. For every 100 women, there are 61.1 men. For every 100 women age 18 and over, there are 61.0 men.

The average income for households in the CDP is $ 18,780, and the average income for families is $ 29,604. Men have an average income of $ 22,557 versus $ 22,292 for women. The per capita income for CDP is $ 18,920. Approximately 7.2% of families and 12.3% of the population are below the poverty line, including none under the age of 18 and 11.6% of those aged 65 and older.

In 2000, English was the first language for 86.46% of all residents, while Yiddish accounted for 3.77%, Spain for 3.43%, Germany was 1.75%, France 1.27%, Russia total 1.07%, total Hebrew 0.74%, Italy 0.67%, Poland 0.47%, and Hungary is the mother tongue 0.33% of the population.

• Comedian Red Buttons is a frequent advertising spokesperson for Century Village.
• The Century village is sometimes jokingly called "Kampung Cemara" because of the high proportion of the elderly population.
• Century Village delivers material for comedy shows at the Phil Hendrie Show on WIOD 610 radio station.
• The children's novel of 1996 The View from Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg is partly organized in Century Village.
