A roundoff is a gymnastic movement similar to a cartwheel, except for a gymnast's ground with two feet placed together on the ground, not one foot at a time, facing towards arrival. This is a gymnastics technique that converts horizontal speed to vertical speed and can be used to change the momentum from running to reverse momentum. Roundoff is used by most acrobatic sports, including gymnastics, dancing, and cheerleading.

Description
Roundoff is a gymnastics technique that changes the horizontal speed to a vertical velocity (higher jump); it is also used effectively to change the momentum from running to reverse momentum, giving the speed and the power to move backwards like a flip and a somersault.
Roundoffs are similar to cartwheels, except for a gymnast's ground with two legs placed together on the ground instead of one leg at a time, facing the way they are coming. This is achieved by turning the hands and shoulders as the hands are placed on the ground. Both hands are usually placed one by one, so the first hand is rotated 90 degrees and the second needle is almost 180 degrees from the direction of the journey. This creates the handstand position facing in the opposite direction to the gymnast, which then they squeeze the hips down quickly to create reverse momentum.
Roundoff is used by most acrobatic sports, including certain types of dance and cheerleader. This is seen in gymnastics floor men and women. Roundoff sometimes starts a series of rear handsprings, flips and bends (called tumbling).

Progressions
Roundoffs are an important part of Yurchenko's vault. In Yurchenko's vault, gymnasts do a round-off to stepping stones and backs up on horseback or dome tables. The gymnast then performs salto, which may range in difficulty from a simple single tuck to a triple twist layout.
