YachtWorld.com was founded in March 1995. In 2000, the ship became part of boats.com, Inc. and in September 2004, Boats.com, Inc. was bought by Trader Publishing Company, a joint business venture of Landmark Media Enterprises and Cox Enterprises. In September 2006, Landmark Media Enterprises and Cox Enterprises divided Trader Publishing assets and YachtWorld into part of Dominion Marine Media, a subsidiary of Dominion Enterprises, LLC which in turn is a subsidiary of Landmark Media Enterprises. On August 1, 2016, Apax Partners acquired Dominion Marine Media and on February 17, 2017, Dominion Marine Media (DMM) was renamed Boats Group, LLC. Today, Sam Fulton is CEO of the Boats Group which includes leading YachtWorld marine brands, Boat Trader, boats.com, Cosas de Barcos, and YachtCloser. June 1, 2017, Boats Group including YachtWorld decided Miami is the right place, headquarters.
In 2012, YachtWorld launches the iPad app. and by 2015 relaunched its website to be fully responsive.
