Plot
Roland (Taye Diggs) gets married (and is currently missing) and Slim (Richard T. Jones), who scoffs at the idea of ââmarriage, is furious at Roland for disappearing. The story is reminiscent of Mike (Omar Epps, portrayed as a young man by Sean Nelson) first encounter with Roland (Trent Cameron) and Slim (Duane Finley), his first crush on a girl named Alicia (Malinda Williams), and the third child's bad luck young as a teenager who grew up in the 1980s Inglewood, California ("The Wood"). Shy and awkward, Mike looks like a sore thumb on his first day, but quickly befriends Slim and Roland.
Brave of Slim and Roland, Mike runs up and grabs Alicia's ass, causing a great fight with her sister Stacey (De'Aundre Bonds), a member of the Blood gang. While he's totally defeated, Mike gets Stacey's personal respect to fight like a man. Meanwhile in the present, Mike and Slim go to look for Roland for her marriage, when they get a call from Tanya (Tamala Jones) saying that she has him with him and that he is very drunk. They go to her house to pick her up to bring her back to marriage to marry his wife Lisa (LisaRaye McCoy) because they only have two hours before the ceremony begins.
Back in their old school days: on their way to their first dance that year, the boys went to a store held by Stacey, who recognized the boys and offered them a ride to the dance. The children were almost caught by two policemen because of Stacey's rear lights. Mike's quick thinking prevented one of the police from finding Stacey's weapons and they were unaware that Stacey and Boo's arrest was what got them off the hook. Impressed, Stacey started a new friendship with Mike by apologizing for their previous preparations. However, he explains that he is protecting his sister, and, seeing how much Mike likes him, gives him advice on how to win his heart.
When they returned to the dance, it was almost over and Mike danced with Alicia and, at the end of the dance, got her number. Mike and Alicia started dating for three weeks in junior high and then staying friends. In the present while remembering, Roland fell ill and vomited all over Slim and Mike. Now, the men only have an hour before the wedding and they have to be cleaned up, so they take their clothes to the cleaners. Mike, back to their memories when they were junior in high school, remembering they were thinking about sex, how to get it and making a lot of bets for who had it first. Mike has a boyfriend and Alicia has a boyfriend. Though the two had established relationships with others, one day Mike and Alicia walked to his home from the library talking about the Homecoming Dance. They hear the first song, which they dance to remember their first kiss. They start having sex, but stop because Mike's condom is broken. Alicia told Mike that Stacey should have a condom in her room. Mike finds a condom in Stacey's room and has to hide under his bed, so as not to get caught when Stacey and his girlfriend come home.
After they leave, Mike returns to Alicia's room and finally they make love. Mike wins the bet, but he does not tell Roland and Slim to honor Alicia. Mike, now hiding his remaining shyness with excessive confidence, reunited romantically with Alicia. It is revealed in the present that after high school, Alicia and Mike split up. The boys finally made it to the wedding and Roland apologized to Lisa who was angry for leaving her worries behind.
Before the ceremony begins, Mike sees Alicia (Sanaa Lathan). Roland and Lisa are married. Mike recounts his last childhood memory, and when they go to the dance for their school and that they will be the boys of "The Wood".
