New Edition
The New Edition was founded by Brown's 9-year-old and childhood friend Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Travis Pettus, and Corey Rackley who all know each other grew up at Orchard Park Projects in Boston. However, Rackley left the group early and a good friend Ralph Tresvant joined the group on Bell's suggestion that singing alongside Tresvant as a duo. Brown is also familiar with Tresvant since they were little. Travis Pettus will also leave the group and they become quartets Bell, Tresvant, Bivins, and Brown. In 1982, they became a quintet when their manager, Brooke Payne, insisted on bringing his nephew, Ronnie DeVoe, to finish the group. After performing at several talent shows in the Boston area in 1982, they signed an agreement with fellow Bostonian Arthur Baker Streetwise Records, who released their debut album Candy Girl. The title track, in which Brown sings co-leads alongside Bell and Tresvant, is a top-20 hit on Billboard's R & amp; B Singles Chart in 1983. The first full vocal performance of Brown's first full-time ballad was the New Edition of "Jealous Girls," which was a minor hit when also charted in 1983. The group became a pop sensation with their second self-titled release. The album includes crossover hits "Cool It Now" and "Mr. Telephone Man," which is also Brown co-led.
Regardless of the group's success, however, Brown felt the group never received the money they earned from their success, then said, "The most I see from all the tours and all the records we sell are $ 500 and VCR." Brown is also suspected to be jealous of the attention given to fellow New Edition members, Ralph Tresvant, and during some of their tour shows will often get out of position and do outside the turn, sing and appear seductive, which causes concerns in the group management team. Brown was featured on two New Edition albums before leaving the group in early 1986. Brown later said he felt that group management treats them "like little slaves by people who are only interested in money and power, and not in the welfare of the New Edition." Some controversy arose in the way Brown removed from the group. Some people say Brown asked to be removed from the New Edition, but the VH-1 documentary Behind the Music in the group said Brown had been selected by the group through their management team, with its members - mostly clearly Tresvant - against the decision that.
Solo Career
After coming out of New Edition, Brown signed a contract with the group's previous label, MCA (who previously promised Brown a solo deal if he decides to leave New Edition), and also signed a contract with manager Steven Machat, who has also worked with the new Edition. The label released its debut album King of Stage in 1986. Brown has hit number one R & amp; B with the ballad "Girlfriend," but the album failed to perform well.
Brown laid low for more than a year while working on his follow-up album. With the help of Machat and MCA representatives, Louil Silas, Brown began working with several producers and songwriters R & amp; B at that time, including Babyface, Antonio "L.A." Reid and Teddy Riley. The producers helped compile what became Brown's most successful solo album in his career, Do not Be Cruel . Released in 1988, the album launched five top ten hits on Hot 100's Billboard , including number one, the self-written "My Own Prerogative," which became, together with "Every Small Step "and the title track, hits the signature for the player. Having topped the pop and R & amp; B, album sales will eventually reach twelve million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album of 1989. In February 1990 she won a Grammy Award for Best Male R & amp; B Vocal Performance for the fourth single album "Every Little Step." Do not Be Cruel also collects Brown's two American Music Awards, Soul Train Music Award and People's Choice Award.
In 1989, Brown donated two songs to the Ghostbusters II soundtrack, and he also had a cameo role in the film. Leading the soundtrack album, "On Our Own" became another top-ten for the singer, peaking at number two. In the same year, remix compilation, Dance!... Yes Know It! , was released, and found fans in the UK, where Brown has a huge fan base and success. Brown embarked on a 120-day world tour to promote the Do Not Be Cruel project in 1988. The tour was a success, with Al B. Of course! open it for him, and the New Edition also opens for him on some dates. The tour lasted until spring 1991, but not without Brown gained notoriety because of the simulation of sexual acts on stage, which caused him problems with local law enforcement. In 1990, Bobby performed the song "Tap into My Heart" at the 1990 MTV Awards, and Brown was set to release the Mystical Magic album, but it was kept for an unknown reason, and never saw the light of today.. In 1990, Brown appeared at number one hit "She Is not Worth It" by Glenn Medeiros, making it the second hit number 1 on the pop chart, and also collaborating with Babyface for remixes of the last single "Tender Lover" of the same year. Brown remained busy and, in 1991, he collaborated with New Edition members and friend Ralph Tresvant on the last single "Stone Cold Gentleman", which was a hit R & amp; top five.
Bobby's next album Bobby will not arrive until 1992. Though released in the last days of the New Jack Swing era - which Brown has dominated - the album became a success, selling over 3 million copies, and spawning some hit singles including "Humpin 'Around", "Get Away," and "Good Enough". She received her second Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance nomination R & amp; "for Humpin Around. He received his third American Music Award in January 1993. However, Bobby's sales did not match his predecessor. Some suspect that this may be due to Brown's recent marriage to Whitney Houston, and his decision to take time off from business for reasons involving his marriage and a new father to come. In any case, he and Houston have recorded a song together, "Something in Common," which was released as a single from Bobby's album. Four years later he will release his fourth solo album Forever , in 1997. Due to Brown's lack of promotion and desire to break away from previous success patterns and write and produce most of the songs, the album is drunk, the only single album, "Feeling Inside", did not work.
Prior to the release of Forever , Brown has negotiated with rapper Tupac Shakur to sign a contract with a new label Shakur Makaveli Records , or with the label proposed by Death Row East. However, Shakur died before it could happen. Letting MCA follow Forever , Brown became low for several years, emerging as a leading artist in 2001 on two songs from The Benzino Project , and in 2002 he was featured in a duet with rapper Ja Rule in the song "Thug Lovin '." Brown signed to Murder Inc. Records, but the label is getting late, so Brown's term with them is short. In 2006 Brown appeared to add vocals to Damian Marley's song "Beautiful" on Marley's album, Welcome to Jamrock . In 2010 Brown was featured in a duet with singer Macy Gray on the song "Real Love" on Gray's album The Sellout . About this project, Gray explains to Essence, "Actually, he came to the studio, because he did not live far away, and knocked down his recording in two hours. We were friends, and his friend" The old boy is my godson. Her fiancée is one of my best friends all over the world. I've met Bobby for a long time, but we really have to get to know each other through him. "
On June 5, 2012, Brown released his fifth album, The Masterpiece , which debuted at number 41 on the R & D album charts. B.
On February 14, 2017, Brown performed at the Valentine's Day Music Festival with Keith Sweat, Avant, and El DeBarge.

Full reunion took place with the release of the album in 1996, Home Again . Brown contributed lead vocals on two hit singles, "Hit Me Off" and "You Do not Have to Worry". However, the 1997 tour to support the album caused trouble between Brown and other New Edition members. Brown later admitted that he struggled with drug addiction and alcoholism during the tour.
In 2005, on BET's 25th special anniversary, Brown reunited with New Edition to a receptive audience. In 2008, Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill then formed a splinter group, Head of State, to compete with Bell Biv DeVoe.
