Homestead is a city in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida, between Biscayne National Park in the east and Everglades National Park to the west. Homestead is primarily a suburb of Miami and a major agricultural area. This is the main city in the Miami metropolitan area, which is home to about 6,012,331 people at the 2015 census.
Homestead was founded in 1913 and is the second oldest city in Miami-Dade County next to the city of Miami. Located about 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Miami, and 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Key Largo. The name comes from when the Florida East Coast Railway extension to Key West is under construction. The railway passes an open area to homiliading, and since the construction camp at the end of the track has no particular name, building materials and supplies for workers submitted to "Homestead Country", shortened to "Homestead" by engineers mapping the area that. The population is 60,512 at the 2010 census. Homestead and South Miami-Dade County community neighbors bore the brunt of Hurricane Andrew on August 24, 1992.

According to the US Census Bureau, the city has an area of ââ14.4 square miles (37 km 2 ). 14.3 square miles (37 km 2 ) of it is ground and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km 2 ) of it (0.63%) is water.
Homestead is a small town. At its greatest north-south point - along SW 137th Avenue (Speedway Boulevard) - the city limits only 4 miles (6 km) - from SW 288th Street (Biscayne Drive) on the north end to SW 352nd Street (theoretical) at the southern end. At its greatest east-west point - along SW 328th Street - the boundary of its city extends 6 miles (10 km) - from (theoretical) SW 132nd Avenue on the east end to SW 192nd Avenue on the western end. 1 AS - known as Homestead Boulevard within city limits - extends through the rather narrow northeast/southwest corridor of SW 304th Street (Kings Highway) on the north end to SW 328th Street (Lucy Street) at the southern end. Summer is hot and humid and high temperatures average between 88 à ° and 92 à ° F (31 à ° to 33 à ° C). Winter is warm and dry. The record of high temperatures over time was 100 ° F (38 ° C), on July 21, 1942. In 2000, the average income for households in the city was $ 26,775, and the average income for families was $ 26,409. Men have an average income of $ 23,118 compared to $ 20,261 for women; The per capita income for the city is $ 11,357. Approximately 29.1% of families and 31.8% of the population are below the poverty line, including 43.9% of those under the age of 18 and 20.0% of those aged 65 years or older.

Every month, news events are released that offer Homestead residents updates on local events as well as other developments across the region. Government and infrastructure
Florida Department of Corrections operates the Dade Penitentiary and Homestead Correctional Institution in an unrelated area near Homestead. Dade CI was originally the Annex of the Dade Penitentiary, and Homestead CI was originally the Dade Penitentiary; both received their current name on July 1, 2003.
The United States Postal Service operates the Homestead Post Office.

Transportation
The main highway connecting Homestead with other Miami-Dade areas is US 1, Florida Turnpike and State Road 997. Florida Turnpike has three exits (6, 5 and 2) as it travels south through eastern Homestead before finally ending in the US. 1 in Florida City. US 1 (Homestead Blvd.) runs northeast to southwest approximately through downtown, and is the only way to proceed to the Florida Keys. State Road 997 (Krome Ave.) runs north-south through the western end of Homestead and through the historic downtown district.
Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) runs several Metrobus routes connecting the Homestead/Florida City area to the entire Miami-Dade region. The Express route runs along the South Miami-Dade Busway, connecting the area with Metrorail and the entire Metrobus network and to the Tri-Rail, Amtrak, and Miami International Airport. In addition, MDT operates the Dade-Monroe Express service from Florida City to the Upper Keys.
The City of Homestead operates two local Homestead Trolley circuses. This free service operates daily and transit key residential, business and commercial areas, as well as the historic downtown district and the Homestead Miami-Dade College Campus. The trolleys connect with Metrobus on Busway and other Metrobus stops across the city.
Starting in 2014, the Homestead Troy begins seasonal services to Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. The free Homestead Garden Trolley is offered by City of Homestead in partnership with the National Park Service. Operating on weekends between January and April, this service is the only public transportation option available for these two parks.
General Aviation Homestead Airport is located northwest of the city's central business districts.
There is a public marina at Homestead Bayfront Park and Marina, in Biscayne Bay east of the city and adjacent to the Convoy Point Visitor Center at Biscayne National Park, and at Black Point Park and Marina in the northeast. Convoy Point also has a limited number of slip marinas for day visitors to the dock.
