History

1991-99: Starting and deal with Universal Records

Cash Records was founded in 1991. Bryan Williams told some of his closest motivational friends to start the label:

"I hope it will take us out of the project and towards a positive way of living and we want to help others get out of this poverty"

Along the way he meets many influential people on the street with Hot Boys. Wendy Day negotiated an agreement between Cash and Universal MÃÆ'ºsic Group's Universal Records (now Republic Records), which became an 80% -20% distribution deal. Later, UMG acquired a portion of Cash Money Records, making it a subsidiary of UMG.

During the first few years (1991-1994), Cash Money hosted a number of local releases by artists, selling only one album, without ever releasing a music video or having a hit Billboard. Some label releases garnered some regional successes in New Orleans, Louisiana, but the label was little known to the national rap scene. Artists on the label during this period include group U.N.L.V. (Uptown Niggas Living Violently), Kilo G, Lil Slim, Pimp Daddy, and PxMxWx. In 1995, the labels were signed young rapper B.G., Turk and Lil Wayne. The signers mark what will become the second wave of Cash artist. Salvo's opening Cash Record is a release from Kilo G 'The Sleepwalker.' Rapper Kilo G was just 15 years old when his Cash Money debut arrived in 1992, and his album was sold out from the trunk of a Williams brothers car.

In 1997, B.G. and Lil Wayne formed the Hot Boys group along with Juvenile (which was already regionally successful before Cash Money). Although they made little impact outside the region at first, they became the most famous label artist from the beginning.

Cash Money big money came in 1998 when Hot Boys, B.G. and Juvenile in particular, attracted the attention of Universal Records executives. In 1998, Cash signed a $ 30 million emphasis and distribution with a $ 3 million upfront contract with Universal, labeling 85% of the royalties, 50% of its publishing revenues and the holdings of all masters. Dino Delvaille, who arranged the deal, then told HitQuarters: "I make sure they keep 100% ownership of their work, they deserve it."

After the transaction, Cash notes reach a new level of success. The release of Juvenile 1998 album 400 Degreez , certified by Platinum 4X by the RIAA, condenses the Cash as a powerful label in the national hip-hop scene. Then albums in 1999 such as Hot Boys' Guerrilla Warfare , BG Chopper City in the Ghetto , and Lil Wayne's Tha Block Is Hot also saw the success of the charts which is remarkable and enhances the label's reputation. The albums contained major Billboard hits such as Juvenile "Back That Azz Up" (# 19 on Billboard Hot 100), BG "Bling Bling" (# 36), and Hot Boys' "I Need a Girl Hot "(# 65). All Cash Money albums and singles in this period are produced by home label producer Mannie Fresh. A & amp; Their R in Universal, Dino Delvaille, says:

"When they first enter the business, they are very reluctant to make notes with others They may feel that people will steal their style or taste, and I have to work hard to get them open to make recordings with Cam 'ron, Puffy, and Clipse, among other things. "

2000-12: Continuous success and various players

The success of this label continued into the 2000s. Between 2001 and 2003, the label sold 7 million albums. The song "Still Fly" by Big Tymers was nominated for two Grammy Awards. However, B.G. and Juvenile left the label in 2002, claiming financial mismanagement. In April 2003, Juvenile returned to the label for a reported $ 4 million deal, and in return signed the right to Juve The Great , an album that sold over a million copies and contained Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 click "Slow Motion".
