A bush mechanic is someone who is out of necessity and with available material immediately, able to solve practical problems using sometimes unfashionable and inventive techniques. Generally inventive techniques are required due to lack of appropriate resources or other constraints in solving problems using traditional means (for example, using tree branches to repair broken shafts).
Bush Mechanics may also be known as "bushies".
The bush mechanist promotes competent behavior and has a strong emphasis on practical knowledge and wisdom, not technical skills.
The 2001 Australian Bush Bush Television show featured the bush mechanical skills used by a group of indigenous men from the Warlpiri State as they traveled through Australia's rocky central region.
